*/10 in the minute field takes every tenth minute, starting at 0. It is the same as 0,10,20,30,40,50 * * * *.

FieldValueMeaningAllowed
Minute*/10Every 10 minutes, from minute 00-59

Watch out for

  • To move the job off the round minutes, shift the start: 3-59/10 * * * * runs at :03, :13, :23 and so on.
  • A run that takes longer than 10 minutes overlaps the next one. Use flock -n or a lock in the job if two copies must not run at once.

Often used for: Syncs, feed imports and cleanup jobs that do not need to be instant.

Use it in

crontab

*/10 * * * * /path/to/your-script.sh

Edit with crontab -e. Runs in the server's timezone.

Kubernetes CronJob

apiVersion: batch/v1
kind: CronJob
metadata:
  name: my-job
spec:
  schedule: "*/10 * * * *"
  timeZone: "Etc/UTC"
  jobTemplate:
    spec:
      template:
        spec:
          restartPolicy: OnFailure
          containers:
            - name: my-job
              image: busybox:1.36
              command: ["sh", "-c", "date"]

Without timeZone, the schedule follows the timezone of the kube-controller-manager.

GitHub Actions

on:
  schedule:
    - cron: '*/10 * * * *'
      timezone: "Etc/UTC"
jobs:
  run:
    runs-on: ubuntu-latest
    steps:
      - uses: actions/checkout@v4
      - run: ./your-script.sh

Without timezone, GitHub runs schedules in UTC. It runs them at most every 5 minutes, and a run can start late when GitHub is busy.
